Juanita Watts Byrd Essay Contest
Juanita Watts Byrd was a charter member of the Continental Societies, Inc. (CSI), Newnan Chapter where she held numerous offices over the years. She also served as a Regional Director of the Southeast Region of CSI. She was an educator whose career began at Newnan High School as a counselor and she was one of the first black administrators in Coweta County Schools. Throughout her servant life, she encouraged students to enroll in college, served on local library board, volunteered with Coweta County business groups, and organized a variety of charity events. She was also the pianist at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for many years. This essay contest has been sponsored at the local, regional and national levels in her honor since her untimely death in 2007.

Middle School Students are eligible to participate (6, 7, and 8 graders). To apply, click the link on the picture. Print and complete. Attach the essay if the form does not work.
All entries are based on the assigned topic for this year:
Write a persuasive essay explaining, “The Importance of Voting for Government Leaders”.
Essay length should be between 350-500 words. Essays will be judged based on content, originality, grammar, and conclusion statement.
A cash prize will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the local contest and the 1st place winner will go on to compete at the regional level.
